Day 3: Song That Makes You Happy: "Caroline" by Noah Gundersen

>> Saturday, July 14, 2012

The 30 Day Song Challenge continues onto day 3. Song That Makes You Happy.

There is not another song, especially this version from ThisCityRocks, that puts a bigger smile on my face. 1 because I was there for this show, and 2, because, just fucking listen.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 2: Your Least Favorite Song: "Tik Tok" by Ke$ha

>> Friday, July 13, 2012

Yeah, I didn't give up on this one yet. Here is day 2 of the 30 day song challenge, Your Least Favorite Song.
This one was hard as I avoid listening to crap, but once I really cleared my mind and asked myself "self, what sucks the hardest?" it was easy. It's this crap.

30 Day Song Challenge: Day 1: Your Favorite Song(s)

>> Thursday, July 12, 2012

So, on my personal Facebook account, I have just started the 30 Day Song Challenge, and I thought it would be fun to share the daily activities here as well. Not to mention a cheap and easy way to do songs of the day.
So, Day 1 is Your favorite song. Knowing me, I could not pick one. At first, I couldn't pick 4, but, after lots of thinking and hemming and hawing, I got it down to two songs and called it good.

And away we go....

Day 1. Song 1A.
"Need Your Love So Bad" by Little Willie John

Day 1. Song 1B
"Creep" (Acoustic) by Radiohead

Song of the Day: "Stones" by Lynx

>> Sunday, July 8, 2012

On a rare occasion, I outsource my creativity.
I do not do this often, mainly, because I rock. But everynowandthen, I realize that a fresh pair may share something I never would have found.
A few days ago, I asked a new friend of mine, (I will call her NayNay for now, since I didn't get her permission to use her real name) if she could help me pick out the weekend edition Song of the Day. She is one of our favorite readers, and we have chatted music here and there, so I know a couple things. Her tastes do not suck, and she knows what we do around here. So, I was confident she would not let me down. And, guess what, she exceeded all my expectations, and kinda blew me away.
It is very uncommon for someone to be all like "hey, you should listen to this band, you would like them" and actually provide me with someone I haven't heard of. Yet alone two. It is exceedingly unheard of for me to actually like what they shared. Well, that is what happened here. NayNay brought me a selection of 4 songs, 3 of which I loved, and 2 of those 3 were from bands I had never even heard of, 1 of those 2 is shared below. Yeah. That just happened.

Two things about this song/video. One, it's beautifully shot/filmed. Two, the song just gets into you. It makes you crave more. I know I do.

Song of the Day: "I Can Lift A Car" by Walk The Moon

>> Friday, July 6, 2012

So, here it is, the song you have all been dying to hear. Only, you didn't quite know it yet. Walk The Moon is a band that I first kinda liked back in 2010 when they released their debut full length "I Want! I Want!" but I couldn't say that I felt they were on totally solid ground. The album as a whole was good, but not great. However, with their 2012 self-titled release, they have finally found their footing. This album, from beginning to end is borderline grand, and nearly spectacular. And that's underselling it.

The band undertook a project called the 7in7.On their own, with no budget, no label support, they made 7 videos, in 7 days for 7 songs. This video is not the best, but it is my favorite song of the bunch.

Album of the Day: The Kaleidoscope by Lemolo

>> Tuesday, July 3, 2012

Lemolo released their full length debut today, The Kaleidoscope. And, with one cursory listen. It's airy, clean, and fantastic. I will go into more depth sooner rather than later. But, I thought first I'd share the first (new) song that jumped out at me. Enjoy.

Support local music (or long distance music, for you long distance readers) and pick up this record. Be warned, that this record will be everywhere soon, and rightfully so. Go to the girls Bandcamp page and grab it. Or be left behind.

Songs of the Day: "Fur Stop Caring" & "I Wait For You" by Right Away, Great Captain!

>> Sunday, July 1, 2012

Today is the type of day where the air feels heavy and thick with with things unsaid and undone. The aggressively gray skies feel oppressive with unrained rain, yearning to deliver an unneeded baptism.
Today feels paused and unfinished. And these songs, hell, this whole album makes it ok.
